BMW Motorrad Malaysia introduced the latest variant of the BMW R 1300 GS, advancing the iconic adventure motorcycle with the addition of the Automated Shift Assistant (ASA). The BMW R 1300 GS was first introduced to the local market at the Malaysia Autoshow in 2024 and has since set the benchmark for the Adventure touring segment.
Building on the model’s established combination of performance, control and long-distance capability, the latest offering introduces Automated Shift Assistant as part of an enhanced Dynamic Package, which includes the Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), Gear Shift Assistant Pro, Riding Modes Pro and Sports Brake.

The new Automated Shift Assistant represents the next evolution of BMW Motorrad’s gearshift technology, automating clutch control and gear shifting to make riding more intuitive and comfortable, while retaining the dynamic engagement that riders expect from the BMW R 1300 GS. With no manual clutch operation required, Automated Shift Assistant makes starting, stopping and manoeuvring easier while allowing riders to devote greater attention to the road and riding experience. Riders can choose between manual gear or fully automated shifting, giving them the flexibility to tailor the experience according to their riding style and conditions.
In “M” shift mode, riders select gears using the foot shift lever while Automated Shift Assistant manages the clutch automatically. In “D” shift mode, gear changes are fully automated based on engine speed and load for smoother, more comfortable shifting. Whether navigating everyday roads, tackling inclines or venturing off the beaten path, Automated Shift Assistant complements the powerful boxer engine by making the BMW R 1300 GS easier and more relaxed to ride while retaining rider control.

Beyond Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) as part of the Dynamic Package, the BMW R 1300 GS variant comes equipped with a comprehensive range of existing equipment designed to support both everyday riding and longer adventures. Its Touring Package includes preparation for a GPS device, Central Locking System, Hand Protector Extension and left and right case holders, while the Comfort Package adds the Passenger Kit, electrically adjustable windscreen and main stand. Adaptive Height Adjustment, the Deluxe headlight, and the M lightweight battery come as standard, enhancing everyday usability and rider confidence. The BMW R 1300 GS with Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) is available in White Aluminium Metallic, a new colour offering, as well as Black Storm Metallic.

At the heart of the BMW R 1300 GS with Automated Shift Assistant is the BMW Motorrad’s legendary two-cylinder boxer engine. With a displacement of precisely 1,300 cc, the boxer engine develops 107 kW (145 hp) at 7,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm, making it the most powerful BMW boxer engine ever produced in series.
With a compact configuration, the gearbox is positioned beneath the engine, resulting in a total weight of just 237 kg. This commitment to innovation ensures that the BMW R 1300 GS continues to set the standard for performance, handling, and adventure capability in the motorcycle market.
